Side stories: Lunch opportunities in Japan

Japan offers great the lunch opportunities. We tasted lunch boxes yesterday and visited a soup restaurant as well. The taste was amazing. You have to try that if you ever get the chance to do so :-)

Timeschedule for the Competition

The time schedule for the competition is available. You can find it online.

http://spl.robocup.org/robocup-2017-schedule/

We will meet the Berlin United and the HULKs in our first round robin phase.

Second Setup Day

We started our day with a good breakfast and were  with the organization here in Nagoya. Official showing participants the way to the trains and venue. Also we got prepared for the Japan way of public transportation. They marked lines on the ground to show us where to stand. Here are a few images.

We will participate today in the penalty shootout competition which is mandatory. Jörg prepared us well and we are a bit nervous like every year before the first real match.

End of Day one

The first setup day is over and we are heading home. We had a great start so far and a warm welcome. We are already excited for tomorrow :-D

First Setup Day

We arrived at the venue a few hours ago. The robocup is quite easy to find in Nagoya. You just have to travel the Aonami Line from one end to the other. You can see the route here.  The train takes approximately 25min and with our batches we got tickets for free.

What is especially great this year: So many volunteers. They waited for us at the airport, at the main station and here at the venue. Thanks in advance for all the great help! You also can't miss them (maybe the color if the t-shirts are a reason ;-)).

The venue is still under construction but the awesome ads for the Robocup are already in place and ticket preorders are sold out.

Most of the teams are already here and it's great to see everyone again :-D

Tobias joined us :-)

Tobias had a flight a day later and joined us at the venue. He had a great trip via Frankfurt to Nagoya but hasn't slept in the last 24h. Let's see if he can make it through the day. :)

Here are some impressions from his journey.

Stop-Over in Korea

The team landed a few hours ago in Korea and is currently searching for a food court. The prices are slightly elevated: a hotdog and a beer 9.25€  Nevertheless the best news is: There is free wifi at the airport ;-)

The time will just fly by with the different activities and events at the airport where you can spend time.

The best when flying long distance is: it's always pleasure for the eyes with beautiful moments and scenery. Here are some impressions.

Take off in Frankfurt and Moscow at night

Travelling to Nagoya - RoboCup in Japan

Today we started our journey to Nagoya. Tobias will join us on Monday arriving on a different flight.

Our tour took us via train to Frankfurt airport. The plane will leave (hopefully with us and the robots) shortly before 8pm and we will have a stop-over in South Korea. We will fly the last few hours after a swift rest and will arrive in Nagoya Monday evening.

The start of a new Robocup is always exciting for us. We prepared so many new things we want to try out or even have to finish before the first match. Nevertheless we are ready and eager to see the mixed team competition and the new ranking system in action.

Here are some impressions from our way to the airport.

Last Night in Leipzig

Tomorrow we fly from Nagoya from Frankfurt airport. In order for a successful tournament we're still in our lab to do some coding.

This time we travel with 7 robots, so unless we lose some heads we have 2 substitutes. This is really important for the final days of the competition when the hardware starts to wear out.

Coming Soon: RoboCup Nagoya

In 7 days the Robocup Nagoya will begin. In order to prepare ourselves, some members of the team already gathered in our lab in Leipzig. We fly on Sunday, 23rd of July.

Yesterday we participated in the Bembelcup as part of the annual Night of Science at the Goethe University Frankfurt. We defended our title from the last year by winning all our 4 matches against the Nao Devils and the hosts the Bembelbots.

A special thanks goes to Nao Devils, which lent us a Nao body. He scored 8 of our 13 goals. :)

Back home from the German Open 2017

We are back home from Magdeburg. It was an amazing time during the German Open 2017 and we are happy having made the second place in the Standard Platform League.

Most of our robots won't stay long in Leipzig. They have many hardware defects which must be fixed by Softbank Robotics in Paris.

Especially one robot had an big incident during the final match against B-Human. Maybe some of you saw on the live stream that he lost is head while he falls on his side. Now his neck is completely broken.  We hope he will be better soon.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. B-Human - 1:4

We are happy having made the second place at the German Open 2017. Congratulations to B-Human who won the first place.
More to follow once we are back home...

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Nao Devils - 4:1

After an exhausting match we won against the Nao Devils with a score of 4:1. The team from Dortmund had a very fast walking but our dribble strategy saved the game.

We made it to the finals against B-Human which is scheduled for today at 15:00 CEST.

Our next opponents are the Nao Devils

The match Nao Devils vs. HULKs just finished with a score of 8:0. So our next game will be against the Nao Devils from Dortmund. We hope we can play as well as in our last match against them which ended yesterday 5:1 for us.
Mark your calendars tomorrow morning at 10:30 CEST to support us so we can win this semi final match.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. B-Human - 0:3

Congratulations to our opponent B-Human from Bremen who won with a score of 3:0. This year we improved our walking engine but they are still faster. Both teams struggled with fading hardware.

However we are in the semi final which will take place tomorrow morning. Our opponent will be chosen this afternoon.
Stay tuned for more information.

Some Impressions of the first competition day

Every free moment on the field was used by the teams to make improvements even if it's just a timeout of five minutes.

We also had some support by a cute girl who wanted to help our robots to win the match against Berlin United during the second half ;)

See you tomorrow at 11:00 CEST in Magdeburg. If you can't be here visit the live stream.

Next match tomorrow at 11:00 CEST

Quick update: The time of our next match against B-Human has changed. The new time is tomorrow morning at 11:00 CEST.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Berlin United - 6:0

Our last match of the day just concluded, we had to deal with two breakdowns so we played just with three robots in the first half. As you can see in the picture Berlin United had some trouble with one of their robots too. Luckily our problems could be solved during the half time and we returned with five robots to the second half.

With a result of 6:0 we look forward to our next match tomorrow morning at 9:00 CEST against B-Human from Bremen, the current world champion.

Nao-Team HTWK vs. Nao Devils - 5:1

We just finished our first match against the Nao Devils. The first half ended with a score of 2:0.
We are very happy that we have won the match with 5:1.

Our next game will be at 16:00 CEST against Berlin United. Like all the other matches of the SPL the game will be streamed live by the StreamTeam.

German Open LIVESTREAM

For all of you who can't be in Magdeburg there is a live stream of all matches of the Standard Platform League on https://robocupgermanopen.de/live produced by the StreamTeam of our university.

The first match will be on Friday at 10:00 CEST (B-Human vs. Berlin United).
At 12:00 CEST starts our first match against the Nao Devils from Dortmund.

German Open Setup: Day 2

The stream team has arrived with a team of 4 to ensure everything runs smoothly tomorrow.

Prior to that we had the referee meeting and a whistle test, as every referee is allowed to bring their own.

Teams are allowed to use colored robots now, Luxembourg United immediately brought some.

German Open Setup Days

The first setup day is over. We used our time before the venue closed at 10 pm to improved various parts of our code such as the get up motion which is stable again.

Right now we are in the hotel room and discuss our plans for tomorrow over a beer.
